After being granted asylum in Germany, a renowned Arab author is not allowed to return home. Tired and embittered by his life in exile, Munir sets off in search of a place to kill himself. When he arrives on a remote island in the North Sea, Valeska, the kind older woman who takes him in, quickly realizes that he intends to commit suicide. Yet as the days go by, Munir finds himself drawn out of his depression by Valeska’s unexpected motherly care and the nature of the island, which reawaken his desires and inspire him to give life a second chance.
