Canadian Premiere of Yunan at Cinéfest Sudbury

Microclimat Films and Filmoption are proud to announce that Yunan, directed by Ameer Fakher Eldin, will be presented for the first time in Canada on Wednesday, September 17 at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. The film’s world premiere took place in the official competition at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025.

Ameer Fakher Eldin is a German-based writer and director born in 1991 in Kyiv, Ukraine, to Syrian parents from the Golan Heights. His first feature film, The Stranger, premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival (Giornate degli Autori), where it received the Edipo Re Award. The film went on to represent Palestine (Fresco Films) as an official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards. Yunan also achieved success at the 16th BIFEST – Bari International Film and Television Festival, winning the award for Best Cinematography (for Quebecer Ronlad Plante) and the Special Mention from the University Jury, with the following statement: “For the film’s effectiveness in depicting exile, loss, and self-alienation, for the way it represents the use of imagination as a refuge and cultural and political uprooting through a dreamlike and symbolic dimension, the University Jury awards the prize to Yunan by Ameer Fakher Eldin.” Yunan was also recognized at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, winning Best Actress for Hanna Schygulla, and Best Actor for Georges Khabbaz, and a Second Prize for Best Actor at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival.
